History

Originally established in 1970, Ujima Housing Corporation (UHC) was formed for the principal purpose of creating adequate housing facilities for low- and moderate-income families. With a passion for community, UHC focused on building community pride, educating tenants in housing maintenance, and improving living conditions. UHC was unable to continue these efforts and had become dormant after 2012 due to circumstances beyond the control of our founders.

As we awaken the Ujima name, our new approach is in full appreciation of the vision of our founders along with the new energy of the current generation of community leaders and local government initiatives.

With a refreshed mission grounded in the concerns of climate change and its environmental effects, we aim to continue the original spirit of service to the community, honoring the past while establishing a footing in the present and solidifying the future.
